Choral Concert (Christmas): Elora Festival Singers (The Wonder of Christmas)

The Toronto-based Elora Festival Singers turn to the art of the Christmas carol, a genre covering a variety of styles, both popular and refined, each piece expressing religious sentiments and beliefs. The music ranges from much-loved settings to new works, from polyphony to more straightforward melodies, in a recital stretching from the Middle Ages to the music of today. As a GRAMMY®- and two-time Juno-nominated chamber choir, The Elora Festival Singers (EFS) has established itself as one of the finest professional choirs in Canada. Founded in 1980 by Noel Edison as the principal choral ensemble of the Elora Festival, EFS continues to attract praise and attention at home and abroad.

“While my love for classical music has influenced my own writing, I’ve always been one to improvise. Reflecting back to my early piano studies, I once performed a recital in which I had to play J.S. Bach’s English Suite in G Minor. Ill prepared in memorization, I forgot most of the entire final gigue movement. Rather than take an early exit, I improvised the passage in a “Bach a la Chadburn” style. I hold that recital experience as a defining moment, in that it helped to unlock my own creative voice.” Dan Chadburn
